Oatmeal and Berries Smoothie

Updated: Aug 24, 2019

"Hello, my name is Zoe and I'm a smoothie addict."

I'm obsessed with smoothies! I recently got a Bella blender which is a far cry from my 19-year-old one with the broken blender. (P.S. the Bella's on a great sale right now! It's only 20 dollars and comes with 5 tumblers. The blade screws onto the cup, so you can drink out of the tumbler you blended it with! I love that because it's fewer dishes for me 🙂)

In case you're not already part of the #smoothiesquad, here are a few reasons why you should be:

  • They're healthy. I know, I know, it's kind of obvious, but smoothies are a fantastic way of getting your fruit and veggie fix in! I personally don't like salads (shh) so I normally eat a lot of raw vegetables. I've started adding a cup or so of greens to my smoothies. I haven't noticed a taste difference whatsoever but I do feel a lot better! It makes me feel like a semi-healthy person and I notice an instant mood lift.

  • Smoothies are Instagrammable! Most summer days I've been in my super comfy clothes with half-done hair and do not feel like taking pictures. But smoothies are more photogenic than you'll ever be and look awesome on your story! (If you don't have the 'gram, you'll still appreciate having a colorful drink in your hand.)

  • They are so easy! I almost never follow a formula with my smoothies. Even with this recipe, feel free to play around! I often pick a theme like tropical, berry, or green and throw in whatever I want. Smoothies are pretty much #nofail . . . it's hard for them to taste bad!

Smoothie 101 Shopping List:

The ingredients on this list are no-way necessary (except a blender 🤪) but will doubtlessly up your game!

#1: Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are so good for you! They're rich in antioxidants, fiber, and protein with very few calories. I've started adding about a teaspoon of chia to my smoothies each morning. It adds a little bit of a wholesome taste and a whole lot of benefits!

#2: Bella Blender: Again, I adore this blender! Compact, versatile, and cute as a button, and it doesn't just make smoothies. It also grinds coffee, makes guacamole and more!

#3: Frozen Fruit: This morning I threw frozen mango, pineapple, and raspberries in my smoothie and it was delicious! Bags of frozen fruit are at the store 2 or 3 dollars a pop. I don't have to worry about using up all of the fruit in our household, no chopping is involved, and the fruit lasts longer!

Today's smoothie:

(See? Photogenic.)

This smoothie is loaded with fiber and fresh fruit! In the words of my dad, it tastes "like a whole-grain raspberry crumble." I wouldn't mind eating a raspberry crumble for breakfast 😉

I used oats, almond milk, raspberries, blueberries, and banana. You can substitute the almond milk for whatever dairy you have, but almond milk does have fewer calories and helps stomach pains.

I topped the whole thing off with chia seeds (see above) and a teaspoon of instant black tea. I can't go without tea! I love the taste of it and I've gotten used to the caffeine boost. I often don't drink it when I have a smoothie for breakfast, so using powder is a compromise. It gives the smoothie a little of the flavor and the caffeine.

Side note: I've never used protein powder in my smoothies but I know some do. If you do, how is it? Should I try it?

This smoothie is amazing! Tasty and protein-packed, I guarantee it will become your new breakfast go-to.

Thanks for reading! I hope you have fun trying out this recipe and soaking in the last days of summer. Ciao.
